My last posts were from Austria, just before I embarked on a two-week trek in the Dolomite mountains (left) of northern Italy.
I survived the hiking adventure, but my computer (which was safely stored in a hotel while we hiked hut to hut) did not, konking out permanently on the first day I was back in Internet range.
It took more than two weeks of trouble-shooting, hand-wringing, hysteria and bad news from the Apple “recovery” team before we were able to retrieve everything on the hard drive from a “cloud” back-up service.
But now I have lots of eating adventures to share, and hope to crank out some mouth-watering stories in the days to come. Stories about the luscious barley risotto at Fuciade Hutte in the Dolomites (and the stormy, lightning-spiked climb to get there); the ethereal spinach knödeln (dumplings) on the shore of Wolfgangsee (Lake Wolfgang) in the Salzkammergut; amazing homemade sausage and polenta in the weensy mountain village of Sotoguda; and the best-ever Buchweizen (buckwheat) Torte (pictured here) at a cozy forest inn called Schillerhof.
I also have a few tasty tales of great eating and hiking in Sun Valley, Idaho, and a two-day bike tour from Seattle to Vancouver, B.C. that’s firmly ensconced on my “Best Things I Ever Did” list.
So, please forgive my recent silence, and come back soon and often to share my appetizing adventures.
